Almost Home

Aileen arrived in Nicaragua last week and has already started her job. She seems really happy and has great things to say about the town we will be living in. Emma, Hannah and I are in Florida visiting my parents for a few days before we join Aileen.

I was planning to write a weighty tome on where we are moving, what we will be doing there and why we are going. However, just getting to West Palm beach has been such a comedy that I am not ready to focus on what comes next.

Trying to pack our home, manage some last minute business, take care of the girls and fly them across country has been a humbling experience. We managed to get to Florida despite a long list of last minute emergencies that left me sitting on the floor talking to myself the night before our plane left.

Speaking of the plane, our flight was totally off the hook. It started with TSA thinking Emma’s guitar was a bomb and the tuner was a detonator so we almost missed the flight. Perhaps missing the flight would have been a good thing; we had a mechanical problem that made our landing pretty terrifying, complete with an emergency services escort chasing us down the runway.

The struggles getting to Florida were just the beginning. However, since my parents are going to read this I cannot really get into what it has been like to be trapped in a retirement community near West Palm Beach. Use your imagination.

Despite the challenges, things are actually going great.  We are having a nice time visiting my family and are really excited about heading to Nicaragua. Hopefully I will have something interesting to say once we get there.

In the meantime, I keep pondering episode 92 of Beavis and Butthead in which their teacher, Mr. Van Driessen, does and analysis of political struggle in Central America which contributes to Beavis' transformation into the Great Cornholio.  I could not find a video but here is a photo for your viewing pleasure.
